Pool hustling does not have to be taken too seriously. If you have a basic acting skill, an ability to make at least one successful trick shot and you are not afraid to make a fool out of yourself, you can act as a pool hustler for one night. If you do it well, you might earn a few bucks or at least free beer.
In your role as a pool hustler, you should look a weaker pool player then you actually are and to be convincing enough to cause people play for money against you. For a successful act, you should first know your way on the pool table. Not necessarily a pool master, but at least some who can control the cue ball, perform some trick shots and tackle your opponents to dead-end positions.
Second, you mustn't look like someone who practice pool or like someone who is eager to win. To play a persuasive pool hustler, you should look careless about your winning chances and more of a drunken who had arrived to the pool hall for the cheap booze than of a pool enthusiast.
Therefore, do not visit the pool hall with your personal pool cue, but borrow the house equipment. Of course, do not reveal your skill early in the evening. Start by missing every easy shot until someone agrees to play with you. Furthermore, don't play for money in the beginning; play a few games for fun, for drinks or for small amounts of money.
Traditionally, a pool hustler is always surrounded with a friend who plays along with him. If you can find someone who (for a certain percentage of your profits) would agree to collaborate with you, his role would be to win you in one or two easy money games and then disappear into the night.
