If you are new to pool, 8ball pool is the first game you should learn. Arguable whether it is the easiest of all pool games, 8ball pool is the most popular pool game in the US and around the world. You can play 8ball at (almost) every pool hall as well as in any online pool room.
8Ball – Object of the GameThe game of 8ball is played with two groups of object balls, one group of solid balls, numbered 1-7, and a group of striped balls, numbered 9-15, in addition to the 8-ball and the cue ball. After the choice of group is made, each player can pocket only the balls of his group. The first player who've pocketed all 7 object balls of his group may attempt to pocket the 8-ball; if succeeds, he or she wins the game.
Opening Break ShotIn 8ball pool, the opening break shot is taken with the cue ball behind the head string when the balls are racked in a triangle at the foot of the table. To commit a legal break shot, the breaker has to either pocket an object ball or send minimum of 4 balls to the cushions. If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break shot, the 8-ball has to be spotted. Any other pocketed ball, remains out of play. If the breaker scratches, it is a foul and the table is open (i.e. the choice of group of balls is not made yet).
Solid or Striped? The first player who legally pockets an object ball after the opening break shot, may choose the group of object balls. After this stage, the players must pocket only the object balls of their group.
8-BallTo legally pocket the 8-ball the player must: 1. legally pocket all of his 7 object balls. 2. call a pocket. If the player legally pockets the 8-ball into the called pocket – he or she wins the game. If the player fouls when pocketing the 8-ball, pockets the 8-ball with other ball, pockets the 8-ball into other than the called pocket, pockets the 8-ball before its time (unless on the break shot) or cause it to jump off the table – he or she loses the 8ball pool game. |
